This smolderingly hot week would be an ideal time to seek out Smithereens, the cool below-street-level ode to New England cuisine from Nick Tamburo and Nikita Malhotra. A favorite dish was the paper-thin buckwheat crepe ($24) brushed with maple butter that drapes across a layer of creamy smoked bluefish.

Visit another Eater city sitePlus, an empanada shop expands — and more intelAfter 11 years, Baz Bagel, located at 181 Grand Street, at Mulberry Street, in Little Italy, is bowing out. An announcement went up on Instagram this week: The last day is June 22. Owner Bari Musacchio confirmed the news to Eater, adding that she had previously lived above the restaurant, but after 20 years in the neighborhood, she had moved on and it felt like a “natural time” to do the same with her business.

New York is a damn expensive city, and no more is that evident than in the picturesque Greenwich Village and the West Village in particular. The affluent neighborhood is lined with cobblestoned streets brimming with luxe developments, high-end boutiques, and the West Village Girls fulfilling their Sex and the City aspirations.

Pig and Khao Pig and Khao, Leah Cohen’s Southeast Asian restaurant, which had been on the Lower East Side for more than a decade, is shutting down. An Instagram announcement stated that the restaurant’s last day at 68 Clinton Street, near Rivington Street, is June 22. The lease had been up for renewal, and with the building “requiring significant investment to remain operational,” they made the decision not to renew. Eater has reached out for more information.
