MENOMINEE — The Catholic Social Services of the Upper Peninsula purchased a home on 14th Avenue in December to serve as a recovery house for sober women trying to get back on their feet. Last Monday afternoon, home and community members gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a house blessing. The home, the Elizabeth House, was blessed by Bishop John Doerfler. MARINETTE — The City of Marinette has put up a streetlight on the corner of Dunlap Avenue and Stephenson Street after an alderperson’s wife petitioned the city to do so. At a recent Marinette Civic Affairs, Cemetery, Traffic & Lights Committee meeting, the committee’s chair and council alderperson, Debbie Klegin, said she received several letters requesting an additional streetlight at that intersection.
Docks damaged over the winter

MENOMINEE — Over the winter, the ice and cold weather damaged two docks at the Menominee Marina. Tugboats, barges, small excavators and other heavy equipment had to be used to repair the damage. NWTC graduates GED students

MARINETTE — As the newest Northeast Wisconsin Technical College graduates don their caps and gowns to receive their degrees and certifications Thursday, one graduate will fulfill a promise she made to her late grandfather to get her GED. Lizzy Zahorik finished the school’s GED program in September of last year. She dropped out of Crivitz High School in March 2022, three months before her sophomore year ended.

MENOMINEE — The new Menominee County sheriff summarized his department’s needs Tuesday during the Menominee County Board of Commissioners meeting. MENOMINEE — An independent accounting firm recently shared its findings after auditing Menominee County’s financial statements for the year ending Sept. 30, 2024. The audit does not include Menominee County Road Commission financial statements, which are done by the state of Michigan. Kathleen Ciantar, a principal accountant and lead auditor from Anderson, Tackman & Company, PLC, of Escanaba, went over the report with county commissioners Tuesday evening. The firm was hired by the county.

MARINETTE — After a year of discussions, the Greater Marinette-Menominee YMCA has decided to move. Officials have contacted Marinette County to express interest in purchasing the Max E. Peterson Field House, located on the University of Wisconsin’s Green Bay-Marinette Campus. Marinette County Administrator John Lefebvre, at last Wednesday’s Infrastructure Committee meeting, said he and Facilities Director Martin Keyport met with YMCA board members a little over two weeks ago.

MARINETTE — Later this month, 150 students will graduate from the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Marinette Campus. The school offers associate degrees, one-year technical diplomas and short-term certificates. Eight students are graduating from Marinette’s Computer Numerical Control Machining Program.
