The board voted in favor of the State legislature including funding in the 2025-27 State Budget for the WDNR to acquire the Railroad Line once it is formally abandoned.

    MARINETTE — About 170 active wildfires are burning across Canada, impacting air quality in the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin. Smoke from the fires continues spreading over much of the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes. More than 25,000 residents in three Canadian provinces have been evacuated. Manitoba declared a province-wide state of emergency May 28, with wildfires especially threatening residents in the eastern and northern part of the province.

    MARINETTE — The Marinette City Hall elevator is out of service after recently failing a regularly scheduled, annual inspection. Alderpersons met Thursday to try to hash out a solution, which may involve temporarily moving City Hall, or a more permanent move or no move at all.     MARINETTE — Student achievement was displayed at the most recent Marinette Board of Education meeting on May 20. Every year, the Wisconsin Music Association sponsors Solo & Ensemble competitions. Students are rated on a scale of 1-5, with 1 being the best. Students scoring 1s in every category qualify for the state. Once there, the same rating scale is used.

Board member Judy Grace nominated Cindy Verschay for school board president, with board member Rose O’Hara seconding the nomination.
