SAMMAMISH, Wash. — Passionate about her own education, Diya Nahar of Sammamish wanted to ensure young students who needed a place to learn were granted that safe, welcoming and nurturing space. Nahar, a rising senior at Eastside Preparatory School in Kirkland, started a fundraising campaign with Pencils of Promise about three years ago. The goal was to raise $50,000 to build an entire school in a country where the funds were much-needed.

SEATTLE — A new mental health recommendation may prompt more adults to get screened for anxiety. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) commissioned a systematic review to evaluate the benefits and harms of screening for anxiety disorders in asymptomatic adults. The USPSTF is independent of the federal government. It makes evidence-based recommendations about preventive services such as screenings, behavioral counseling, and preventive medications.

SEATTLE — If you want to help paint a giant mural in Seattle, the Museum of Flight wants your help. On Saturday, July 22, a gray exterior of the Archives building that is seen as you walk up to the museum, will be painted. The 18-foot by 125-foot wall will feature an original design by artist Esmerelda Vasquez. Her design is inspired by the museum’s collection and the concept of flight. The mural will be outlined in paint-by-numbers style so participants will be able to easily fill in the colors.
