    The vast majority of Kildare drivers who were disqualified from driving in 2024 have not surrendered their licence, according to figures released to Social Democrats TD Aidan Farrelly by the Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien. In 2024 a total of 418 Kildare drivers — including 74 with learner permits — were disqualified by a judge, but so far only 34 have surrendered their licenses to the Road Safety Authority, despite being given 14 days to do from the start of the disqualification.

    A secondary school in Kildare is waiting on temporary accommodation to come from another local school to be able to accommodate 30 children who are on its waiting list. However, local councillor Paula Mulroe is fearful that “additional bureaucracy and red tape” threatens the delivery of the temporary accommodation, and could prevent the children on the waiting list at St Farnan’s Seconadary School, Prosperous from getting a school place.

    A FOOD fight has broken out in Kildare town after the county council granted permission to a take-away to keep its €80,000 renovations, despite four chippy rivals joining forces branding it “illegal”. The four allies – Zokmo and 5-Star Pizza on the Dublin Road, Mizzoni’s on Station Road, and Macari’s on Claregate Street –  have protested against Bella’s Take-away on Nugent Street, with the latter having already appealed the decision to An Bord Pleanála (ABP).

    A ONETIME contributor to this very paper has published a book about her charitable work on the Caribbean island of Haiti. is the book by former local journalist, Anne Heffernan and tells the raw facts about living in one of the poorest countries of the world. Anne is originally from Tallaght, now living in Carbury, but who spent 21 years of her life in Clane, and so it was here that she chose to launch the book in the library there on Thursday (3 April).

    Kildare is to host its first ever Inclusivity Festival at the Curragh Racecourse on 11 May, which will see areas for family fun, a zone to experience inclusive and adaptive sports, an ‘ultimate’ obstacle course, a Barretstown Magic Zone – and all for free!There will also be live entertainment, an artisan food and craft market, and stands to exhibit the service providers available on the day, which runs from 11am to 4pm.
