TEXARKANA, Texas (KSLA) - Following the arrest of an ArkLaTex police officer accused of the sexual assault of a child, one department program is paused and under further review. “We’ve made the decision to pause the Explorer post activity right now,” Texarkana Texas Police Department spokesman Shawn Vaughn said. Vaughn said the future of the department’s Explorer Program is uncertain following the arrest of a Texarkana officer.

TEXARKANA, Texas (KSLA) - The City of Texarkana, Texas and the Texarkana Historical Landmark have installed signs marking the historic route of Trammel’s Trace. “And we see on this map done in 1840,1841 is Trammel’s Trace,” Mark Solomon, Texarkana Texas Historic Preservation Officer, said. Solomon said Trammel’s Trace was the first road into Texas from the north and was named for Nicholas Trammel, who smuggled horses from then The Republic of Texas to Arkansas.

TEXARKANA, Ark. (KSLA) - Before becoming the Texarkana Arkansas Recreation Center, this building served as a central location for the Texarkana Boys & Girls Club. Hundreds of kids sought refuge there, like Rod Smith, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Denver Broncos. “I always call it a safe haven. That was a place you could go and know that things were going to be right from the way they ran it,” Smith said.

WAKE VILLAGE, Texas (KSLA) - At least three alleged bandits are on the run following the armed robbery of a Wake Village, Texas credit union. Police say just before 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, employees at Red River Credit Union, located at 4714 West 7th Street, were exchanging money at an ATM when two people got out of a car. One of the subjects was armed with a handgun and took a large amount of money from the credit union. The suspects’ car was found abandoned in Texarkana, Arkansas.

LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Ark. (KSLA) - “We knew we would have some rain. We weren’t sure as to how much and as quick as it fell,” Robert Carmichael said. Carmichael, the director of the Lafayette County Office of Emergency Management, was out Tuesday, May 27 checking on areas still covered with water following the 5-6 inches of rain that hit the county over the past couple of days. The water is receding, but some damage has been left behind.
