    The trucking company at the centre of the latest overpass strike in the Lower Mainland is the same one involved in a crash into a Kelowna home in early 2023. A truck belonging to Chohan Freight Forwarders Ltd. hit an overpass on Highway 99 in Delta on Dec. 28 causing significant damage.     Following the success of last year’s Making Waves Mural Festival, Peachland council has approved a new piece of art for a district-owned building.     West Kelowna Fire Rescue (WKFR) is recruiting paid on-call firefighters. Online applications are being accepted until Oct. 15 and training for successful candidates will begin in January 2024. Previous firefighting experience is not required as successful applicants will undergo a nine-month training program, along with on the job experience. An in-person Information session is scheduled for Wednesday, Sep. 27, starting at 6 p.m. at Glenrosa Firehall Station #34 (3399 Gates Road).

    An out-of-control wildfire is burning about 15 kilometres west of Peachland. The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says the human-caused blaze was discovered around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept 16. It is currently 10 hectares in size. There are no evacuation orders or alerts associated with the fire, according to the BCWS.
