BUTTE, Alaska (KTUU) -Flooding alongside the Old Glenn Highway has created a river that is running through homes and business properties in the Butte. According to the Mat-Su Borough (MSB), flooding from the Matanuska River occurred over the weekend due to snowmelt caused by the string of high temperatures in the valley. “The increase in the temperatures [is] leading to more runoff, especially from the snow that we had in the mountains the last couple of weeks.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) -An Alaska young woman is aiming to break two Guinness World Records by the end of the year. 20-year-old former Palmer Resident Sophia Lee is attempting to be the youngest person to visit every country in the world, in addition to being the fastest person to do it including both poles. “So far I have visited 150 countries and counting and am traveling full time to complete this goal,” Lee said.

WASILLA, Alaska (KTUU) - A Wasilla woman has more than just her family visiting her backyard pool this season. Ayla Nicholson had one of her residential moose take a dip in her pool this week. She told Alaska’s News Source on Wednesday that she saw the moose attempting to drink out of the pool. When it struggled to do that, however, it then decided to take a dip instead. “And I said, ‘Babe, there is a moose in our pool!,’” Nicholson said, recounting what she told her husband.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Anchorage Fire Department is sounding its own alarm, asking people to give its crews space when responding to emergencies. Last Friday, AFD responded to a car that had crashed into a building on Gambell Street. According to the fire department, while crews were responding to the crash, they encountered numerous near-collisions with other vehicles on the road.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A Wisconsin man is aiming to travel 3,800 miles from the Midwest to Anchorage, Alaska, to help raise money for pancreatic cancer research. On Friday, 69-year-old Daniel Winkelman, of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, will begin riding his motorcycle to Alaska, with the goal of arriving in the Last Frontier by July 10. The ride, which he has dubbed, “Hope on the Road,” aims to raise awareness for pancreatic cancer as well as funds for clinical trials.
