ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The University of Alaska-Anchorage will close its Hugh McPeck Gallery in May due to a lack of funding. The university told Alaska’s News Source that the lack of funding is connected to enrollment and increasing costs. “The funding for the art gallery has previously come from the student activities fee, and with the increase in costs and wages, we have had to make a cut to that particular funding,” Kim Morton, the executive director for student engagement, said.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Anchorage ski areas are in their final weeks of the season, while others have closed their lifts for the year following a season with limited snow. In South Anchorage, Hilltop Ski Area closed a week earlier than normal as the ski area wrapped up its season during the last weekend in March. “It’s been a challenging season for us this year,” Robert Deberry, a spokesperson for Hilltop, said.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A 17-year-old student was arrested on Monday following an investigation regarding suspected drug distribution at Mat-Su Career Tech High School (CTHS). According to Alaska State Troopers, packaged marijuana and a handgun with an alternated serial number were found inside the student’s vehicle in the school parking lot. This comes after the district said it received a tip about items inside the vehicle at the school parking lot.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Municipality of Anchorage is reporting thousands of potholes so far this season, up from recent years. The city told Alaska’s News Source on Friday that it has fixed over 2,300 potholes this year. Municipal Street Maintenance Manager Paul VanLandingham said that is double from last year so far. “Last year to this date, we had about 1,100,” VanLandingham said.
