The search continued Monday for a 5-year-old boy who reportedly fell from a bridge into the Genesee River on Sunday. The operation is now a search and recovery effort, according to the Rochester Police Department. At 4:40 p.m. Sunday, Rochester police responded to a 911 call reporting that the boy had fallen from the Andrews Street bridge after climbing over the railing. The child had walked ahead of his mother, who was pushing a stroller, according to Rochester Police Department Capt. Greg Bello.

A flashpoint in Wednesday’s Voice of the Voter debate came when candidate and City Councilmember Mary Lupien asked incumbent Malik Evans a pointed question. “Mayor Evans, will you commit to ending the sweeps?” Lupien asked. The question came during a debate about homeless encampments, and how the city deals with the homeless population. The only scheduled debate in the Democratic primary for Rochester mayor spanned a range of topics, from poverty and public safety to housing and economic development. The debate saw incumbent Mayor Malik Evans on the defensive for much of its run-time. His opponents, second-term City Councilmember Mary Lupien and IT executive Shashi Sinha, painted Evans’ first term as failing to meet the acute needs of the city, from violent crime to rising costs of housing.

State health officials have ordered dozens of senior citizens and people with disabilities to leave their adult-care apartments at the East Danforth and Hudson Ridge towers. The Department of Health order cites “immediate risks to resident health and safety” after a review of the enriched housing programs. Enriched housing provides long-term care, housekeeping, food and other services. But virtually none of those services were being rendered, said City Councilmember Michael Patterson.
