After initially denying federal assistance to the state, President Donald Trump has reversed course and granted a major disaster declaration that will allow federal aid to flow to parts of north Arkansas struck by tornadoes in March. Gov. Sarah Sanders said Tuesday that Trump had announced his decision to approve the federal aid following a phone call with the governor. Sanders served as Trump’s press secretary during his first term as president.

Early vote totals in North Little Rock are looking good for supporters of a millage increase that would build a new middle school, among other projects. Election Day votes have not yet been tallied, but the Pulaski County Election Commission made the early vote totals available online when polls closed at 7:30 p.m. The North Little Rock School District proposal is leading 791 to 646, or 55% to 45%, among those who cast their ballots ahead of time.

North Little Rock voters must approve a millage increase on Tuesday, or the North Little Rock School District will lose $21 million in state funding that would help replace the district’s outdated middle school, supporters of the millage increase said this week. Early voting began this week and will continue through Monday at the Pulaski County Regional Building in Little Rock and at North Little Rock’s Laman Library. There won’t be any weekend voting.
