+ Ranking baseball's top relievers for the 2025 season. Now with the football season over and the MLB offseason well underway, it’s time to start looking toward 2025. It being early in the offseason still and there being only about 12-15 locked-in “closers” at the moment, ranking relievers for SV+HLD’s leagues is a little bit easier than ranking strictly closers.

+ Top 100 RP rankings for Saves + Holds leagues in 2024. Jason Adam, Lake Bachar, Anthony Bender, Hunter Bigge, Lucas Erceg, Ryan Helsley, Tanner Scott, and Blake Treinen all had three SV+HLDs this past week. Bachar is the name that sticks out as the most surprising, but the 29 year old rookie isn’t on the fantasy radar this year or next. Helsley continues to build his lead and should finish the season with the most saves (and most SV+HLD’s).

+ Top 100 RP rankings for Saves + Holds leagues in 2024. Jhoan Duran, Phil Maton, Aroldis Chapman, Reed Garrett, Griffin Jax, and Cade Smith all had three SV+HLDs this past week, with Duran and Maton racking four each. Maton and Garrett have settled in as the Mets top two set up options it appears, with Maton really taking off since joining the Mets.

+ Top 100 RP rankings for Saves + Holds leagues in 2024. Griffin Jax, Justin Martinez, Jorge Alcala, Aroldis Chapman, Lucas Erceg, Kevin Ginkel, Chad Green, Josh Hader, Ryan Helsley, A.J. Puk, Manuel Rodríguez, Tyler Rogers, Ryan Thompson, and Ryan Walker all had three SV+HLDs this past week, with Jax and Martinez picking up 4 a piece.

+ Top 100 RP rankings for Saves + Holds leagues in 2024. Jhoan Duran, Hunter Harvey, Ryan Helsley, and Griffin Jax all had at least three SV+HLDs this past week as well. I said “at least” because Duran had a whopping five SV+HLD’s, which I believe this may be the first time I’ve ever seen that in one week. Perhaps even more wild is that he really didn’t pitch all that well, with a 1.615 WHIP and only three K’s.

+ Top 100 RP rankings for Saves + Holds leagues in 2024. Jhoan Duran was the only reliever to pick up four SV+HLDs over the past week. Duran has been fantastic since returning from the IL and is clearly a top-five reliever in the game. The question is then, for those in save-only leagues, what will Duran’s usage look like moving forward as two of those four SV+HLDs were in fact holds.

+ Top 100 RP rankings for Saves + Holds leagues in 2024. Yennier Cano, Emmanuel Clase, Fernando Cruz, Alexis Díaz, Colin Holderman, Griffin Jax, Craig Kimbrel, Trevor Megill, Héctor Neris, Joel Payamps, Elvis Peguero, Nick Sandlin, and Robert Suarez all had three SV+HLD’s this past week. This might be the most relievers (13) we’ve had pick up three SV+HLD’s in a single week since I started tracking this so I won’t be tough on everyone.

+ Top 100 RP rankings for Saves + Holds leagues in 2023. David Bednar and Matt Brash led all relievers with 4 SV+HLD’s this past week. Bednar continues to chug away and gives us a nice surprise with four saves to begin September despite not being at his best. I still wonder if the Pirates shut him down early as they have nothing to play for and he is closing in on his career high for innings pitched (just 1.2 IP away).

+ Ranking baseball's top setup options for the 2023 season. Now that it’s July, it’s officially trade season and we’ve already seen a pretty significant move with Aroldis Chapman going to the Rangers over the past weekend. Chapman gets a small boost going to Texas where he should see more holds chances and could potentially move into the closer role in the second half if Will Smith falters.

+ Ranking baseball's top setup options for the 2023 season. This will likely be José Alvarado’s last week on this list as it’s looking more and more likely that he is the Phillies’ closer at the moment. Not only has he been the team’s best reliever this season, but he’s arguably been a top 1-2 reliever in all of baseball to begin the year.
