Farmington woman dead after crashing car, police cite alcohol as factor

GENEVA, N.Y. — A Farmington woman is dead after crashing her car while under the influence of alcohol, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO). Deputies say it happened in Geneva early Sunday morning. Around 2 a.m. Alyssa Coleman had been driving on County Road 4 when she veered off the road and crashed into a large tree. Police say she had been drinking and speeding, which both likely played a factor. Coleman was 36.
Prison staff still on strike at Groveland and other facilities after state says they could face charges

GROVELAND, N.Y. – New York State says it’s giving corrections officers on strike at dozens of prisons its final warning to return to work or face consequences. The state’s Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said staff could face charges if they don’t return to their scheduled shifts on Friday. News10NBC went to Groveland Correctional Facility in Livingston County, as the unsanctioned strike entered its 18th day, to see whether staff chose to return to work vs. walk the picket line.
Suspect in murder of Irondequoit family due to court for motions argument

IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. – One of the two suspects in the murder of an Irondequoit family of four is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday for a motions argument. Julio Pimentel Soriano is accused of killing two children, ages 2 and 4, and their parents in their home on Knapp Avenue on Aug. 31. Irondequoit Police have been investigating ever since finding their bodies in the basement of the home when responding to a fire.
Tentative agreement reached between union and state officials to end prison staff strikes

NEW YORK STATE – Nearly two weeks after corrections officers began striking at multiple prisons across New York State, prison leaders and the union representing staff have reached a tentative agreement to end the strikes. Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office announced the agreement on Thursday night. It came after the fourth straight day of a third-party mediator helping with the negotiations.
3 shot overnight in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Three people are recovering after an early morning shooting in the city. Police tell us it happened just before 4 a.m. Sunday in the area of Dewey Avenue and Ridgeway Avenue. When officers got on scene, they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds. A 45 year old woman and a 21 year old man were taken to the hospital, where they’re in critical but stable condition. The third victim, a 45 year old man, was grazed by a bullet and treated on scene.
1 dead in Ontario Co. Crash

CANDICE, N.Y. — A man is dead after a crash in Ontario County. Ontario County Deputies said it happened around 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Town of Candice. Troopers tell News10NBC John Sutherland was driving north on Lawrence Road when he veered off the road into a ditch. Sutherland was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The man known for roles such as Westley in The Princess Bride, Robin Hood in Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and Dr. Lawrence Gordon in the Saw movies will be speaking at the Kodak Center on Friday, September 29. The event will start with a 7 p.m. screening of The Princess Bride, after which Elwes will discuss life on set of the 1980s classic. His talk will be moderated by News 8’s very own Adam Chodak.
Dead body found in Genesee River

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Police recovered a dead body from the Genesee River Sunday afternoon. According to investigators, a citizen called 911 at around 3 p.m. to report a potential body in the river, near Veteran’s Memorial Bridge. The Rochester Fire Department and Rochester Police Department scuba team responded to recover the body. Police said the medical examiner’s office was present as well. No additional information was released on the recovered individual.
