This June marks the bicentenary of a Laois church. The Church of Saint Kieran, Knockaroo has a long and rich history dating back to the 1760s, when it formed part of the parish of nearby Aghaboe. To mark the occasion, Áilís de Búrca wrote a history of the Knockaroo church, that was compiled by Geraldine & Rachel Campion. The church was established during the Penal Law era, when restrictions on the practice of Catholic worship placed most of the population outside the protection of the law.
