GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A fatal car crash along I-70 has left three people dead. The crash happened Tuesday May 27th at 10:34 a.m. Two cars were driving on I-70 heading westbound. The cars crashed at mile marker 105.9 near New Castle. Colorado State Patrol responded and found three people involved in the crash. The Garfield County Coronerβs Office also responded and declared all three people dead on scene. One driver was an 84-year-old woman from New Castle.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The Durango Police Department made a familiar arrest on Monday. The police department apprehended Irwin the kangaroo this week. The marsupial escaped his home and wound up bouncing through neighborsβ backyards. This isnβt the first time Irwin has escaped either. Last year he was found after hopping off into different parts of town.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The final phase of the U.S. 50 bridge repair project began Monday. The Colorado Department of Transportation made the announcement that crews had started painting operations on the new steel installed on the bridge last year. The steel was installed on both the middle bridge and the Lake Fork Bridge.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Wednesday night, the Grand Junction City Council decided on what to do with the controversial 4th and 5th Street pilot project. In a 4-3 vote the council passed the decision to revert the 4th and 5th Street corridor back to its original state before the pilot project began, but it doesnβt just end there. The motion also outlined that city staff will have leeway to adjust lane widths in the future to account for traffic safety standards as they see fit.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Thereβs a new addition at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. In April, a baby African penguin hatched, and at just 22 days old, the newest addition to the zoo only weighs a little more than two pounds. In 2024, African penguins were listed as critically endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List. The conservation list also showed the African penguin breeding pairs have fallen below 10,000.
