Helping out in the home prepares youngsters for later life. Picture: PA/Alamy WHEN I was a child I’d often help my mum and dad with jobs around the house. I didn’t do it every day, but each week I’d do odd jobs, whizz around with the Hoover, wash-up, hang out the washing and help Mum make the beds. I regularly helped to clean the windows, balancing on top of the front bays to tackle upstairs.

ARTISTS Ellie Hawkes, from Guiseley, and Saltaire-based Emily Parkin will be displaying their creations at Saltaire Arts Trail in May. We spoke to them about their work. Ellie says: “I studied art for GCSE and A-level and loved it. I always knew I wanted to go to university but wasn’t sure what to study. Art and creativity brought me the most joy, so I decided to do a foundation course at Leeds College of Art before going on to study a BA in fine art at Central Saint Martins, London.
