NYM. It’s been a struggle finding a reliable reliever in the Mets bullpen since the trade deadline outside of Edwin Díaz, as they take fliers on a bunch of guys and see what sticks approach hasn’t exactly worked out. Phil Maton has been the best option (1.84 ERA, 0.95 WHIP), but whether or not that is sustainable (3.72 xFIP, 25% K, 9.4% SwStr, 81 Stuff+) remains to be seen.

Kevin Ginkel and A.J. Puk have somewhat quietly turned things around over the past couple of months, with each one being in great position to help fantasy managers in the second half. Over their past 21 IP, each has 5 holds, while Ginkel has a strong 26.9% K-BB rate and 2.26 SIERA. Puk has been great himself with a 25.6% K-BB rate, and 2.45 SIERA (plus a 31% CSW and 123 Stuff+). Both have closing experience, and could be called upon to close out games in the coming weeks as well.

+ Ranking baseball's top setup options for the 2024 season. The Cardinals bullpen got a boost this past week with the return of Giovanny Gallegos, who has been one of the top set up man in baseball in the not too distant past. I’m not too optimistic on Gallegos returning to that form, as his velocity is still down as of his first game back from the IL, but it’s also his first game back so it’s fair to give him some more time to get up to speed.

+ Top 100 RP rankings for Saves + Holds leagues in 2024. Trevor Megill, Carlos Estévez, Ryan Helsley, Kenley Jansen, Evan Phillips, Ryne Stanek, and Alex Vesia all had three SV+HLDs this past week, with Megill having a whopping four saves. Only Helsley has more saves than Megill since Megill earned his first save of the season back on April 25th. Jansen has looked much better lately with just 1 walk allowed over his past 8.2 innings.

Ryne Stanek has had some hiccups along the way but for the most part has put together a respectable season so far, and has been really good as of late. He still has a plus fastball at 98.5 MPH with 18.3 iVB and can get whiffs with his secondaries, so he should be a steady holds source. Shelby Miller returned from the IL this week and already has a hold to his credit. With Jason Foley having an up and down May, there’s an outside shot at Miller seeing some more save chances as we move forward.
