    A LOCAL councillor is encouraging residents to get in touch following reported vandalism and criminal damage at Mapplewell Park. It’s reported that after 4.30pm on Tuesday evening, Mapplewell Bowling Club was tackled by vandals. Coun Steve Hunt has asked for anyone with any information to contact the police. He said: “This damage involved two road signs from the kids’ cycle track being ripped out and thrown onto the bowling green.

    CANNON Hall Farm will be back on the television screens next week. Springtime on the Farm will air on Channel 5 at 8pm on Tuesday to Friday. The Cawthorne farm is the official host for the show which has won a TV Choice Award for best factual programme three times in a row.     A LOCAL councillor has been working hard to ensure a mining memorial wheel looks its best ahead of the 50th anniversary of an explosion. Houghton Main Memorial Wheel was erected in the 1990s to commemorate those who lost their lives during a colliery explosion on June 12, 1975. At the time of the explosion, 1,361 men worked at the colliery - 1,191 underground and 170 on the surface.

    PLANS to build a pair of ‘much-needed’ assisted living blocks for adults recovering from mental health illnesses in Athersley South have been approved by Barnsley Council’s planning board.
