The Conservative Party of British Columbia has quietly begun voting on the leadership of John Rustad in a marathon process that could last about six months. Rustad says in-person voting has already taken place in at least two ridings and he expects the ballot to be completed in December, once members in all 93 B.C. ridings have taken part.

Confidence among the province’s small- and medium-sized enterprises rebounded to 53.4 points in June on the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB)’s 12-month outlook — up sharply from a dismal 26.5 in March.

In August 2022, Thompson Rivers University (TRU) had such a long waitlist for student housing that it procured a 113-bed workcamp from northern B.C. as a temporary measure. Less than three years later, the Kamloops-based institution is now contemplating closing a 305-bed dormitory, partly due to Ottawa’s caps on foreign student permits. “The international demand has tapered right off because of the federal changes,” said Matt Milovick, TRU’s vice-president of administration and finance.

It says that means that region remains dry and at risk for new fire starts. The service says isolated thunderstorms are forecast for the south and central Interior.
