Harnett County is ready to welcome the public to celebrate the Harnett Regional Jetport (HRJ) Terminal. Originally scheduled as a ribbon cutting and jamboree to celebrate the grand opening of the Harnett Regional Jetport Terminal, the event originally planned for earlier this year on May 18 had to be canceled and rescheduled due to inclement weather. HRJ celebrated their grand opening in a smaller ceremony in mid July of 2024 (read about that here).

The Federal Food Symposium originally scheduled for Nov. 19-20, 2024, has been postponed and will now take place April 1-2, 2025. In the announcement of this postponement the NCMBC team stated: “Hurricane Helene’s devastation in Western Carolina affects a third of the state – including many businesses who would benefit from the Federal Food Symposium. Additionally, businesses in central and eastern Carolina are responding to support efforts that would want to attend this event.

The Federal Trade Commission has announced a final “click-to-cancel” rule that will require sellers to make it as easy for consumers to cancel their enrollment as it was to sign up. Most of the final rule’s provisions will go into effect 180 days after it is published in the Federal Register. “Too often, businesses make people jump through endless hoops just to cancel a subscription,” said Commission Chair Lina M. Khan in a press release.

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. for the Crown Event Center project. The ceremony will be held on the site of the new Crown Event Center, in the parking lot in front of the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse, 117 Dick Street, Fayetteville. The Crown Event Center will serve as a replacement to the original Crown Theatre and Arena, which opened in 1967 and must close.

Sampson Community College’s (SCC) Heavy Equipment Operator program recently completed an immersive three-day training session at the Sampson County’s GFL Environmental Landfill Site. Thanks to the partnership with GFL, students had the opportunity to work one-on-one with seasoned operators at GFL-- gaining hands-on, real-world instruction with large-scale equipment specific to the site.

Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse effective Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 5:30 p.m. In advance of this closure, County officials encourage the public to take note of alternative parking options.
