BOSTON — Tekoa native Susannah Scaroni took home first place in the women’s wheelchair division at the Boston Marathon on Monday. Scaroni finished the marathon in 1:35:20 for her second Boston Marathon win. According to the Associated Press, her victory guaranteed that the “Star-Spangled Banner” would play on Boylston Street in Copley Square on Patriots’ Day, the state holiday commemorating the first shots of the Revolutionary War 250 years ago Saturday.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced on Monday that two amendments that would have limited participation in women’s sports to biological females have failed. According to WIAA, both ML/HS #7 and ML/HS #8 were advisory votes. If passed, they would not have been implemented under state law.
