WATERLOO — A family was left without a home following a Wednesday night fire. Residents of 311 Iowa St. escaped after a blaze broke out in an upstairs room around 6:35 p.m.Crew with Waterloo Fire Rescue responded and extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The American Red Cross was called to assist the family with emergency shelter. The home is owned by MBA Properties LLC of Waterloo, according to property records.

WATERLOO --- No serious injuries were reported when a vehicle struck a Waterloo hotel Wednesday afternoon. Details weren't immediately available, but a Suzuki Grand Vitara collided with the front of Suburban Studios, 2056 La Porte Road. The vehicle knocked out small portion of the wall under a first-floor window. Paramedics with Waterloo Fire Rescue were called for a minor injury. Love Funny Wow Sad Angry

WATERVILLE --- A Raymond woman has died in an off-road vehicle collision with a deer on Friday. According to the Allamakee County Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Heather Lynn Jones was trapped under the vehicle during the crash and was later pronounced dead at the scene. The accident happened at about 9 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Paint Creek Drive and Ness Ridge Road near Waterville.

WATERLOO — Bond has been set at $1 million for a 74-year-old sex offender accused of sexually assaulting a woman while she was intoxicated. Black Hawk County sheriff's deputies charged Lawrence Eugene Lavenz with four counts of third-degree sexual abuse. He was arrested Friday. The charges stem from two incidents at an address on Lavenz Lane in rural Waterloo.
