This year, Akron is celebrating its 200th birthday. The year-long Bicentennial celebration includes a calendar of events, public forums, July 4th fireworks and a big parade. These events are in addition to the closing ceremonies in December to mark the city's founding in 1825. As part of the celebration, Akron last month opened its long-planned history center.

President Trump this week exempted smartphones and some electronic components from the highest tariff rate imposed on Chinese imports. It’s just the latest pivot in sweeping changes to U.S. trade policies since Trump in February first introduced global tariffs against Canada, Mexico and China. Reciprocal tariffs levied earlier this month against 60 U.S. trading partners were rolled back after global stock markets collapsed.

The reporters did an excellent job explaining the complicated chemistry behind these chemicals, where they come from and where they're found.

A Cuyahoga County Probate Court Judge has appointed a long-time East Cleveland resident to serve as interim mayor. Sandra Morgan is a member of the state commission overseeing finances for the city of East Cleveland and is the granddaughter of Cleveland inventor Garrett Morgan. Her appointment was announced Friday by Cuyahoga County Probate Court Presiding Judge Anthony J. Russo.

Home improvement projects are a lot like radio. When done right, no one notices. Listeners don’t notice a perfect break, tight writing, brisk delivery and precise timing. But everyone hears a mistake: a flubbed pronunciation, missed outcue or awkward pause. Home improvement, like radio, falls under what I call the "curse of perfection." A job well done is invisible. I’ve seen this truism repeated many times in my on-going kitchen renovation project. I am not a handy man.
