Candler County Sheriff John Miles has developed a proposal to provide a consolidated law enforcement service to the City of Metter. “By having one team, it will be a benefit to the City residents,” Miles explained to Metter Advertiser last week. “We already have the jail, dispatch, radio system and an SRT team, including canine units and drones, through the County; these are services that they do not have in the City. It also includes emergency management.

During their Feb. 17 meeting, Candler County Board of Commissioners will consider an application by SR Metter, LLC, to rezone approximately 1,035 acres of land from AG3 to LI (light industrial) in order to develop a solar panel collection facility. The request by SR Metter is being made on behalf of Reidesel Forest LTC and Cheryl Allen & Ginger Rogers for property located on Canoochee Road and Collins Road. The applicant has also filed an application for a conditional use permit.
