KENNESAW – People of all ages in wheelchairs took to the skate park at Swift-Cantrell Park in Kennesaw on Saturday. Life Rolls On, an organization that serves to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities through adaptive surfing, skating and fishing, presented the event for the ninth year in a row.

MARIETTA – A bench dedicated to the people that flew, built and maintained the C-141 Starlifter was unveiled at the Aviation History and Technology Center in Marietta on Saturday. The bench is located right behind the C-141 Starlifter plane, one of 285 that were built at Lockheed’s factory in Marietta not far away. It was gifted to the museum by the 57th Airlift Squadron Alumni, said Boone Barnes of the museum’s board of trustees.

MARIETTA – First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Marietta celebrated its 75th anniversary Sunday. The service was the first for Rev. Dr. Valerie Alexander as permanent senior pastor of the church. Alexander has served as interim senior pastor for the last year. Alexander said the ceremony was a good day of celebration and commemoration. Special guests included Pastor Kyle Ermoian and the Marietta High School choir.

MARIETTA – The new CEO of LiveSafe Resources provided a update on the domestic violence shelter at this week's Marietta Area Council of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce meeting. Lisa Mello, who has been with LiveSafe since November 2023, was joined by Kim Gresh, owner and president of S.A. White Oil Company and the longest-serving member of LiveSafe's board.

Cobb County’s unemployment rate for March is 2.9%, up slightly from 2.7% in February, according to numbers released Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor. By comparison, the metro Atlanta area rate is 3.1%, the state's is 3.1%, and the nation's is 3.8%. Cobb’s March unemployment rate increased slightly from the previous month, but more people were employed in the county that month than they were in February or a year before.
