As temperatures hovered in the mid 90s on Sunday afternoon, everyone did their best to stay in the shade at the 35th annual Evanston Garden Walk, which featured seven private gardens of varying sizes and an urban farm. Six of the gardens and the farm are shown below. All proceeds from the Garden Walk go toward scholarships for summer camps at the Evanston Ecology Center, home of the Evanston Environmental Association. The weather gods smiled upon the 2025 Evanston Summer Solstice Jam at the Arrington Lagoon on Friday, where the Chicago Full Moon Jam fired up the crowd around the lagoon. On this longest day of the year Climate Action Evanston and the city of Evanston brought its community an evening of fire performances and music. The event was free, but donations were suggested in support of Climate Action Evanston’s new Youth Climate Leadership Fund.

Artist El Paris Jamieson drew a mural titled Solidarity last weekend under the Lake Street CTA viaduct with sidewalk chalk, so the work wasn’t meant to be permanent. According to the artist, it depicted “an indigenous Mexican young woman, and an indigenous Palestinian young woman, facing each other and uniting in struggle.” The elements would have naturally erased the art over time, but for someone, that wasn’t fast enough.
