The Evanston Farmers’ Market opened for its 50th season on Saturday morning, and the crowd quickly filled up with people shopping for fresh produce, bread, crepes, coffee and art from local vendors, among other things. The market opens at 7:30 a.m. (with early access at 7 a.m. for seniors and people with disabilities) every Saturday through Nov. 1 in the parking lot downtown just off University Place and Oak Avenue.

Two peace activists from Israel, one Jewish and one Palestinian, visited Evanston’s First United Methodist Church on Monday night for a talk moderated by Rabbi Andrea London of Beth Emet The Free Synagogue. The two organizers, Itamar Avneri and Angela Mattar, are in the Chicago area as part of their work with Standing Together, a grassroots movement that’s working to unite Palestinians and Israelis under a shared hope for peace.
