Dozens of rats invade Glasgow high rise grounds as residents scared to leave homesTenants at Charles Street in the north of the city are "terrified and disgusted" to leave their homes, insisting the rodents have now become "used to residents" and continue to run riot in the neighbourhood. The residents are scared to leave their home and claim their neighbourhood is over run by dozens of rats. On one visit The Scotsman witnessed the removal of close to 20 dead vermin by Glasgow City Council.

John Devlin joined the RSPB team whose job it is to monitor themThere are four species of geese that spend the winter in the Loch Lomond area. All but one species are migratory, heading north in March to breeding grounds in Iceland and Greenland over the summer before returning to the UK in October.

BACKGROUND: Guidelines currently recommend targeting light sedation with dexmedetomidine or propofol for adults receiving mechanical ventilation. Differences exist between these sedatives in arousability, immunity, and inflammation. Whether they affect outcomes differentially in mechanically ventilated adults with sepsis undergoing light sedation is unknown.

Methods and analysisTrial designINSPiRE-ICU1 is a phase 3, multicentre, randomised, controlled, open-label, assessor-blinded trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of inhaled isoflurane delivered via the Sedaconda ACD-S compared with intravenous propofol for the sedation of mechanically ventilated adults ICU patients. INSPiRE-ICU1 is the first of two, methodologically identical, parallel phase 3 trials (INSPiRE-ICU1 and INSPiRE-ICU2).
