Taking a deep dive into the program after the humiliation handed to South Carolina by former SEC East foe Florida. VIPSouth Carolina has taken some beatings, but nothing like this. Even though few were around to witness it in person, Florida entered Founders Park and annihilated a largely hapless Gamecocks (26-23, 5-19) team that put a respectable effort in the opener, but was absolutely pummeled the final two games.

South Carolina was pummeled for 13 innings to span the better part of two games dropping Saturday night's suspended game 22-3 then being blanked 8-0 and registering only four hits in the series finale. The Gamecocks (26-23, 5-19) gave up 16 runs over the final two innings to break open the day's first game. In the second game, there just wasn't much to go in their favor. Three Gators (33-16, 11-13) pitchers shut down their former SEC East rival in the seven-inning contest.

No. 13 South Carolina swept a doubleheader against No. 19 Alabama on Saturday at Beckham Field and clinched a first round bye in the upcoming SEC Tournament. After dropping the opening game of the series in run-rule fashion, the Gamecocks (39-14, 13-11) bounced back to win the first game of a doubleheader 3-1, then the second game 7-2. The doubleheader was necessary after inclement weather hit Columbia on Friday night, which suspended the second game of the series.
