Actor and comedian George Wendt has died, taking one of the most legendary sitcom supporting characters in television history with him. The long-suffering Norm Peterson occupied the corner stool at the far end of the bar at Cheers, the fictitious Boston bar where everyone knows your name, and they're always glad you came. Wendt died in his sleep on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. He was 76. George Robert Wendt, Jr., was born in Chicago in 1948.
