The Memphis Grizzlies are seemingly just one piece (and culture shift) from contending for an NBA title. Since drafting Ja Morant in 2019 and enjoying his subsequent performance as Rookie of the Year, the Memphis Grizzlies have missed the playoffs only twice. Once was in 2020, when Morant’s rookie efforts were simply not enough and the team wasn’t ready for the postseason, and the second was in 2024, when injuries piled up and the Grizzlies fell victim to a lost season.

The Houston Rockets are back at the drawing board after losing in the first round to the Golden State Warriors. Entering the 2025 NBA playoffs, two teams were on upset watch: the New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets. Both teams carried themselves more like “pretenders” than “contenders,” although the Knicks were able to beat the Detroit Pistons in six games.

On Sunday, the Indiana Pacers upset the Cleveland Cavaliers, 121-112, to win Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals battle. The Pacers' offensive attack, shockingly, was led by Andrew Nembhard, who scored 23 points on a remarkable five-of-six shooting from deep. Heading into the game, Nembhard was expected to be more of a defensive stopper, although he failed to record a single block or steal. Still, he played a massive role on the defensive end.

After losing in the first round of the playoffs in each of the last two games, the Orlando Magic are expected to explore a massive offseason move. The Orlando Magic, despite not making it past the first round since 2010, are one of the best young teams in the Eastern Conference. Between Orlando and the Detroit Pistons, the East is expected to go through the small markets for the next several seasons, although both teams are a few pieces away from competing for a title.

The Indiana Pacers stole Game 1 from the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Tyrese Haliburton thinks that two players deserve credit. The Indiana Pacers surprised the NBA world, beating the heavily-favored Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal matchup, 121-112. Ten Pacers finished with double-digit points, led by 23 points from Andrew Nembhard. Tyrese Haliburton dropped 13 assists, and the Pacers were able to hold Cleveland to just 23.7% shooting from 3-point range.
