The Clemson baseball team defeated USC Upstate 7-3 on Friday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in the NCAA tournament. The Tigers, who are hosting a regional for the third straight year, advance to play West Virginia Saturday at 6 p.m. Upstate needs a win over Kentucky to keep its season going. The Spartans and Wildcats play at noon in Clemson on Saturday.The Spartans struck first in the game. Johnny Sweeney hit his 18th home run of the year in the second inning to put Upstate up 1-0.

Several upstate baseball and softball teams had big time moments on Wednesday night. The Southside Christian baseball team captured its fourth straight state title with a 3-0 win over Oceanside Collegiate Academy. Carson Boleman pitched an outstanding game for the Sabres. He threw a no-hitter, getting 19 of 21 outs via the strikeout. He struck out the first 15 batters he faced with his brother, Tyler Boleman, catching behind the plate.

Two high school soccer dynasties added to their trophy cases on Saturday in Columbia. The Riverside boys soccer team won their fifth straight state title with a 3 to 1 victory over Lucy Beckham. The match was tied 1-1 at halftime. In the 52nd minute, Andres Acevas put the Warriors up 2-1 with a goal. He scored again later in the half. "Just determination and keeping the legacy for the school," Acevas said after the Warriors' win.
