Weber resigning as Sheldon library director

Nicole Weber is turning the page on her time as Sheldon Public Library’s director. Weber turned in her letter of resignation to the city manager Sam Kooiker on Tuesday, April 29. The resignation will be effective May 30 if approved by the library’s board of trustees during its monthly meeting Wednesday, May 21. “This decision was not made lightly, and it comes after carefully considering my personal and professional goals,” Weber wrote in her resignation letter.

SANBORN—Lillie Mattice wrote poetry when the inspiration struck her. Sometimes, there would be a notebook handy, and she could sit down and write her poem. Other times, the inspiration came to her and there was only a napkin or envelope near her, but she would make do and write the poem on those or any scraps of paper she could find as paper was scarce. It also meant her poems could end up anywhere around her O’Brien County home.
Board gets tour, update of Sheldon High School project

Construction crews have been making steady progress on the $33 million Sheldon High School expansion and renovation project. Dirt started being moved in August followed by concrete getting poured and steel frames put into place on the south, east and west portions of the building for the expansion part of the project. Walls went up shortly after that and then roof work was done.
Maintainer shows off facility upgrades to U.S. Rep. Feenstra

For the second time in two months, Maintainer training manager Milt McPike was able to show off the Sheldon manufacturer’s new training facility to an elected official. Iowa attorney general Brenna Bird toured the facility in February and on Tuesday, April 22, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Iowa) had the opportunity to look at Maintainer’s 11,000-square-foot vocational training center and showroom.

Excellence for East to hold Ties & Tiaras event

Excellence for East will host its third Ties & Tiaras event 6-8 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at East Elementary in Sheldon. Ties & Tiaras is a dad and daughter dance, but it is not limited to dads and daughters. All girls up to sixth grade may attend and must be accompanied by an adult, who can be their father, grandfather, uncle and family friend. The adult may attend with multiple girls.
Sheldon's Got Talent gives encore performance

A year ago, more than about 20 local acts took the stage to show Sheldon’s Got Talent. The Orab Music Boosters hosted the first-time event as a fundraiser for the Sheldon School District music programs. Musical talent took to the stage, and those in attendance voted for their favorite act. The initial event went so well that the Orab Music Boosters are bringing it back. Sheldon’s Got Talent will start at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, in the Sheldon High School auditorium.

SHELDON—Shelley Morris maintained his composure as he talked to U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra (R-Iowa) about how the tariffs President Donald Trump could affect the premium truck body business. Morris is the president and CEO of Maintainer in Sheldon. The company manufacturers premium truck bodies at its two plants in Sheldon along with another factory in Rock Rapids. The bodies are custom fit for service and lube trucks and can include cranes, air compressors, auxiliary power units and other features.
