Jager Roozeboom will take his oath of office for the Sheldon Police Department during the council meeting at 4:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 16) in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center. The council approved offering him the officer position during the April 2 meeting with Roozeboom accepting. The 2021 Sheldon High School graduate will fill the position that was created with the resignation of Dan Crawley in January.

SHELDON—For Rise Ministries’ fifth Good Friday program, founder and president Rob Roozeboom wants to take back ground. The Good Friday televised “Taking Back Ground” premieres on Rise Ministries’ Facebook and YouTube pages at 6:30 p.m. April 18 and will be broadcast on multiple TV stations. This year’s theme goes back to June’s RiseFest, which is organized by Rise Ministries based in Sheldon.

SANBORN—Rob Sand doesn’t enjoy politics. Iowa’s state auditor said he is in his position because of the public service aspect. Sand wants to be the watchdog for the taxpayers of the state. “I hate politics. I look at it so often and just think, ‘What are we doing? This is stupid, right?’ And that could be a procorruption bill or it could be the lying, right? You’ve got liars in both parties, news flash,” Sand said.

SHELDON—When Micah Schreurs was appointed as Sheldon’s city attorney, his youngest child was 1 year old, and he had three more kids at home. Schreurs will be staying on as Sheldon’s attorney after the city council approved a three-year reappointment for him during the Wednesday, April 2, meeting. He has served as the city attorney since 2010.

SHELDON—Colleen Petersen found her calling later in life. She cycled through a few jobs including running a day care out of her house, drawing designs later used for stained-glass art and even working at a Hy-Vee warehouse. Allie Swanson was still in high school when her mom, who was in her 40s, said she was going to get into nursing. “It was nothing new to us, so we were just like ‘Yeah, go for it,’” Swanson said.
