SHELDON—The new stormwater fee for the city of Sheldon flowed through its initial test during last Wednesday’s meeting when the council approved the first reading of the ordinance to start the new utility. There are two more readings remaining before the stormwater fee can be fully approved, with the next one possibly scheduled for the June 4 meeting. The council then could have a third reading or it can waive the third reading after approving the second one.

SHELDON—CJ Richards found his voice in high school. Richards was involved in athletics and band in middle school, but it was his sophomore year in high school when he was able to branch out. A group of upperclassmen encouraged Richards to try out for the theatre and speech program. Richards did, and he was hooked. That’s when his high school experience took off.

SHELDON—One summer food program in Sheldon is underway and another one is getting ready to start again, providing students with a free lunch throughout the summer. The free lunch at Faith Community Church began on Tuesday and the meal hosted by the Sheldon School District at East Elementary begins Monday, June 2. The lunch at East Elementary is for kids 18 and under and will be offered 11:30 a.m.-12:45 a.m. Monday-Friday until Aug. 15.

SHELDON—The Sheldon Family Outdoor Aquatic Center is set to open today (Wednesday, May 28), weather pending. The forecast for today has a high of 66 degrees. The pool will not open if the temperature is not at least 70 degrees. Follow the city of Sheldon’s Facebook page to see if the pool is closed. The weather is expected to be sunnier and warmer on Thursday, May 19, with a forecast high of 74 before temperatures are predicted in the 80s for the weekend.
