SOMERSWORTH — Democrat Billie Butler defeated Republican Ken Hilton on June 24 in a special election for a New Hampshire House seat representing Somersworth and Rollinsford. Butler won the election with 964 votes to 774 for Hilton. Butler will replace Democrat Dawn Evans, who left the seat because she moved out of Strafford County District 12, which comprises the two towns. Butler prevailed in both Somersworth (696-592) and Rollinsford (268-182).

ROCHESTER — The city school district and suspended Superintendent Annie Azarloza have reached an agreement for her to leave the district. Shane Downs, chairman of the School Board, said the agreement is effective June 30. Azarloza has been on paid leave since Feb. 13. Downs and interim Superintendent Alison Bryant did not immediately respond to a request from Foster's Daily Democrat for the financial terms of the agreement.

DOVER — Jason Levesque, the Rochester man convicted of felony assault for shooting his neighbor multiple times after an argument over snow plowing, was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison on June 23. "There is to be no contact with the victim or his family members," said Judge Andrew Livernois in Strafford County Superior Court. Levesque is credited with 445 days of pretrial confinement. "I will suspend one year off the minimum but none of maximum for 20 years," the judge said.

The City Council, hoping to breathe new life into the long-vacant plaza, on June 16 approved the Nostos MMA application for the Community Revitalization Tax Relief Incentive Program.
