KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Mental health issues are on the rise across the United States, according to one Kansas City shelter. They say it’s causing more people to experience homelessness, especially in Kansas City. A new report from Citygate Network shows that 31% of Shelter KC guests were unhoused for the first time. That same report showed that 62% of those people reported that they’ve struggled with mental illness, which is well above the 47% national average.

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Two tornadoes ripped through the Kansas City metro Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed Wednesday. The NWS Kansas City confirmed Wednesday on X that two tornadoes touched down Tuesday in eastern Kansas City, Missouri, and Independence, Missouri. FOX4 spoke with a meteorologist at NWS’ Pleasant Hill office, who confirmed that the first tornado touched down at the Truman Sports Complex from 2:25 p.m. to 2:27 p.m. Tuesday.

Art has a way of bringing people together and that’s exactly what these artists are doing with their garden spheres. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An alarming number of cancer cases at a Kansas City-area school has a local congress member asking for government help. U.S. Rep. Sam Graves wrote a letter this week to U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., asking for his agency’s help in looking into a “concerning number of cancer diagnoses” reported among staff from Warren Hills Elementary School in Liberty. The school is located within the Republican congressman’s district.

Its goal is to significantly reduce the number of pedestrians and cyclists killed in crashes in Kansas City.
