ANGOLA — The Northeast Corner Conference honored some of its best students on Thursday at the annual All-Academic Team luncheon at Sutton’s Deli. A combination of grade-point average and a standardized test score determined who made the team. Grades in the academic core subjects of English, mathematics, social studies, science and foreign language were taken into consideration. A record number of honorees were recognized at a new venue. In all, 33 students made the 2024-2025 NECC All-Academic Team.

BRUSHY PRAIRIE — Prairie Heights distance running standout Ashlynn Myers committed to nearby Trine University Tuesday to take part in both cross country and track and field. “It is a great school with a good education program, and the coaches have been very helpful and worked well with me,” Myers said of Trine in a Prairie Heights statement released to local media.

HUNTINGTON — It was another stressful wait for final scores to come in at the end of a postseason meet for the Angola gymnastics team at the Huntington North Regional Saturday afternoon. The Hornets were really good on a couple apparatuses while having their ups and downs on the two others. But they were able to breathe a sigh of relief by placing third by a very slim margin over fourth-place Carroll, 109.6-109.475, to qualify for the Indiana High School Athletic Association State Finals.

College Track & FieldTrine indoor national qualifiers announcedThe NCAA announced the qualifiers for the Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships Sunday afternoon. Senior Ethan Spahr will compete in the men's heptathlon... The D3 indoor nationals will take place this coming Friday and Saturday at the Golisano Training Center in Rochester, N.Y.This past Friday and Saturday in Waverly, Iowa, four Thunder athletes took part in the Wartburg Final Qualifier meet.

KENDALLVILLE — East Noble senior Cole Strick signed to play baseball at Huntington University on Feb. 27. And he will transition to strictly pitching for the NAIA Foresters. Strick is coming back from surgery on his labrum in his left pitching shoulder. He will largely hit for the Knights and will be a designated hitter and play first base. If Strick will pitch at all this upcoming season for EN is yet to be determined. He will be re-evaluated at midseason.
