BRUSHY PRAIRIE — LaGrange County rivals Prairie Heights and Lakeland both had plenty of struggles this softball season, but squared off in a quality battle to open the Class 2A Prairie Heights Sectional Monday afternoon. The Panthers scored all of their runs in the top of the first innings and senior Emily McCrea threw a two-hitter as Heights hung on to a 3-2 victory on its Field of Dreams.

KENDALLVILLE — East Noble's girls tennis team won its first sectional championship since 2016 in commanding fashion this past week on its home courts. The Knights won all of their sectional duals 5-0, including DeKalb in the semifinals on Friday and Lakewood Park in the sectional final on Saturday morning. East Noble defeated Central Noble 5-0 in a first-round dual on Thursday.

However, there has been room around the top of the league for teams with balance throughout the lineup without a star, like Angola and regular season co-champion Fremont, who made the coaches' state rankings for a week in the middle of the season. Westview needed a solid player who was not the Haarer brothers to lift them to victory.

Lakeland High School graduate Keirstin Roose and Prairie Heights graduate Isaiah Malone recently found new schools at the NCAA Division I level to continue their athletic careers.
