Never before have I heard a term that captures a feeling better than “hangxiety.” We often think about the physical symptoms of a hangover due to alcohol but leave out the uneasy emotions that can occur after a night of drinking. When I heard of hangxiety for the first time, I felt reassured that it wasn’t just me who felt this type of anxiety due to alcohol.

James Lindsay, author of “Cynical Theories,” staunchly defended his assertion that “queer theory is the doctrine of a religious cult” at Turning Point’s event in Alumni Hall on Feb. 20. The event was met with a protest outside of the building organized by Trans Action Building. The protesters, who were brought together by Trans Action Building, dressed as clowns and chanted, “Who are the real clowns?” at Turning Point members as they entered the event.

When we first think of women in the history of alcohol, it is normal to associate them with the Prohibition era of 1920-33. This is an important historic event for the women who struggled with domestic violence at home and came together to find a solution. With this in mind, it’s crucial to recognizing the women who contributed to the large alcohol industry the world has today, which is, to no one’s surprise, largely dominated by men.

If there was any game that Pitt men’s basketball (17-8, ACC 8-6) could not lose in order to stay in contention of earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, it was Saturday Night’s game against Louisville (8-18, ACC 3-12). But senior forward Blake Hinson made sure the Panthers would not falter, as he led the Panthers in an 86-59 victory. Hinson scored 41 points on Saturday night, shooting 14-24 from the field and 9-13 from three-point range.

The Panthers hope to extend their winning streak to six games on Tuesday night when they travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for their battle with Wake Forest, who is a perfect 13-0 at home. Pitt softball (5-4, 0-0 ACC) battled through an up-and-down weekend at the Kennesaw State Tournament. The Panthers took three out of five contests, improving their record to 5-4 in the young season. The weekend slate, featuring back-to-back doubleheaders, presented the Panthers with plenty of opportunity for growth early in the 2024 season. The weekend started on a rough note for the Panthers, as Ole Miss (9-1, 0-0 SEC) defeated Pitt 11-0.

Greg Weston first stepped into WPTS Radio on the fourth floor of the William Pitt Union on Feb. 16, 2004. Two decades have passed since then, but Weston said the staff of WPTS still embodies the same artistic ethos he encountered 20 years ago. “People who are drawn to college radio are people who like to be free thinkers, who kind of do their own thing rather than just follow trends,” Weston said. “It was exciting for me to walk in there, then and now.

Feb. 24 marks two years since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In the time since, tensions have escalated, and thousands of people have experienced displacement and the impact of the war — including in Pittsburgh. Oxana Bayer, a Fulbright visiting scholar at Duquesne University, lives in Ukraine with her friends and family when not in Pittsburgh. She said she has noticed societal changes in attitudes and behavior after the conflict.
