As National Reading Month ends, amid growing concerns about future federal funding for libraries, the Michigan eLibrary has tallied the state's most-requested books year-to-date. Business applications in Michigan and the U.S. remain high following a spike that began during the COVID-19 pandemic. Statewide, just over 11,000 business applications were submitted last month, up 14% from January but down slightly from February 2024. Nationwide, about 420,000 business applications, seasonally adjusted, were submitted in February — up 8% from January, according to data released recently by the U.S. Census Bureau.
