    MILTON - Mount Carmel Area's Liv Kopitsky and her sometime-training partner, Selinsgrove's Isabella Ferguson, traded gold and silver medals in the shot put and discus, respectively, at Saturday's Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference championship meet at Milton High School. Kopitsky won the shot put with a heave of 39 feet, 2 inches, with Ferguson second (37-10). Ferguson won the discus (127-1) with Kopitsky second (122-3). Southern Columbia's Linsey Donlan was third in the discus (114-5).

    SUNBURY — Three candidates are seeking nominations in the May 20 primary for two judge vacancies in the Northumberland County Court of Common Pleas. Magisterial District Judge William Cole, of Kulpmont, and attorneys Edward Greco, of Rockefeller Township, and Frank Garrigan, of Ralpho Township, cross-filed on the Republican and Democratic tickets. One of the judgeships will be vacant for 2026 and an additional seat was awarded to the county last year.

    In an effort to enhance the safety on north central Pennsylvania roadways for both construction workers and motorists, the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) have teamed up to deploy "Operation Yellow Jacket" in highway work zones. "Operation Yellow Jacket" places state police troopers inside PennDOT vehicles in active construction zones.
