GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The 48th annual Amway River Bank Run is set to get underway Saturday morning and the weather looks like it will cooperate for the event. Temperatures will start off quite cool in the morning with readings in the lower to middle 40s under mostly clear skies as the 5K run begins at 7:00 a.m.When the 25K run begins at 8:30 a.m., plenty of sunshine will be in place with temperatures in the upper 40s.

An omega block pattern kept low pressure parked over the Great Lakes for several days developing round after round of rain. It’s among the top 10 wettest starts to May for Lansing (2nd), Big Rapids (6th), and Battle Creek (8th). Grand Rapids received 1.45″ during the first week of the month, resulting in the 14th-greatest total for that period in 133 years of record keeping.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Outside of the devastation brought to the Portage area by an EF2 tornado on May 7, 2024, three additional tornadoes spun up farther south. The first tornado of the evening touched down at 5:11 pm just north of the Dowagiac Municipal Airport, moving northeast and uprooting several trees and causing damage to homes along its path.
