The shooting left a classmate and teacher dead and six other students injured. Freshman River Clardy is one of the students who was critically injured. His mother, Christina Clardy, is a first year teacher at the school.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Suicide continues to affect families across the country, leaving many heartbroken. According to the CDC, there is one suicide every 11 minutes in the United States. Madison resident, Julie Randall, has experienced tremendous loss in her family from suicide. Her mother and brother-in-law, Andrew, both suffered from depression. Andrew died by suicide in 2015.

MILWAUKEE (WMTV) - Republican Congressman Bryan Steil is weighing in on former President Donald Trump’s pick for vice president. Rep. Steil (R-WI 1st District) was elected to Congress when he was in his late 30s, the same as JD Vance. He said he is excited Republicans are passing the torch to the next generation, a generation that came of age with 9/11. Steil said it is not a negative that Vance is inexperienced on the national stage, rather, it is a good thing.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Sen. Ron Johnson said he read an unrevised version of a speech Monday night during the Republican National Convention. Johnson explained speakers were required to keep their speeches short and sweet- 300 words and three to four minutes long. He said he isn’t used to writing in advance and prefers to give speeches extemporaneously. He said he wrote the first draft last week and made revisions after the Saturday assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump.
