COLUMBIA — A Friday afternoon donation helped some needy Columbia Public Schools’ families pay for school lunches. The Columbia Public Schools Foundation announced a donation of $50,000 to the Columbia Public Schools’ Lunch for Learners fund. Donors challenged the community to donate another $50,000. The $50,000 donation put a dent into the Columbia Public Schools’ current school meal debt of $124,613. School administrators said they needed continuous donations to their Lunch for Learners fund.

COLUMBIA — Columbia utility officials said Thursday their water customers should no longer have any discoloration by midnight. Work on a main transmission line caused widespread water discoloration throughout the city on Wednesday afternoon. Utilities officials said new water testing confirmed the brown and yellow water was safe to drink. Utility inspectors test Columbia’s drinking water every day in several locations to make sure their water supply is safe.

COLUMBIA — Columbia police said three juveniles were in custody Wednesday after officers responded to several fights at Tuesday night’s eighth-grade middle school track meet at Rock Bridge High School. Investigators said one of the juveniles was charged with threatening Columbia Public School staff members. The other two juveniles were charged with peace disturbance and resisting arrest.

COLUMBIA — Members of several Columbia organizations celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week on Tuesday. Community leaders held an observance event at Columbia’s Shelter Insurance Fountain. The event was part of Mental Health Awareness Month. Event organizers focused on children with mental health conditions and their loved ones. COLUMBIA — A group of Mizzou students staged a walk-out Friday afternoon in front of their campus administration building. Protesters said the University of Missouri’s compliance with federal immigration and DEI policies went against the well-being of the student body. Members of Mizzou’s Stand Up 4 Students Coalition said University leaders should not comply with the immigration and customs enforcement agency, or ICE, and anti-diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, or DEIA, policies.
