Moses brought in 1,520 votes or 56.09% of the ballots cast in the runoff election between her and opponent Charlie Lewis Jr.Lewis brought in 1,190 votes for 43.91 % of the ballots cast. Moses, 61, is a realtor who has previously served on Port Arthur City Council and the Port Arthur Economic Development Corporation.

Published 5:38 pm Friday, June 6, 2025 A community festival honoring Juneteenth and Father’s Day is set for June 15 on Pleasure Island. Dallas developer Selim Kiralp of Pleasure Luxe, LLC is hosting the event from 1 to 9 p.m. at the Pleasure Island Marina, 410 Pleasure Pier Blvd. Entrance to the event is free. The festival will feature a live band, King Konnection, DJ-spin Zo will be on hand and the Port Arthur Honeybees dance team will perform.

Published 4:42 pm Friday, June 6, 2025 A push to outlaw 8 liner amusement machines is back on track in the city of Orange. A resolution to ban the machines in a move to align with a Texas court ruling began in early May with the introduction of an amendment to Chapter 4 of the city’s business and commerce ordinance. The issue was approved in the first of two readings. A second reading was set for May 22 but there was a power outage so the meeting was canceled.

Published 12:28 pm Wednesday, June 4, 2025 BEAUMONT — An inmate at the United States Penitentiary-Beaumont is dead following a fight on Monday. At approximately 8:15 p.m. Monday employees responded to multiple incarcerated individuals fighting at the penitentiary. Responding employees isolated and contained the incident and initiated life-saving measures. Emergency medical services were requested while life-saving efforts continued, according to a news release from USP.

Published 4:17 pm Tuesday, June 3, 2025 A Nederland man has pled guilty to vehicular homicide and DWI 3rd in connection with a head-in crash that killed a woman in 2023 in Louisiana. Joshuah Cannon, 36, pled guilty to the charges May 19 in Judge Steven Tureau’s court in Ascension Parish, Louisiana. According to information from the Clerk of Court a pre-sentence investigation ordered a cap of 20 years. Sentencing is set for Aug. 18. The two-vehicle crash occurred Oct.
