Charlotte Moses and Charlie Lewis Jr. were the top two vote getters with 1,742 and 1,079 votes respectively. Moses and Lewis beat two other candidates, Chuck Vincent and Allen “Opie” Valka in the May 3 election. Moses, 61, is a realtor who has previously served on the Port Arthur Economic Development Corporation and on city council.

Published 3:44 pm Friday, May 9, 2025 The hard work is yet to come with the recent passage of the Port Arthur Independent School District’s $300 million bond propositions. The unofficial results show Proposition A, which will fund a new middle school, Career and Technical Education Addition, Newcomers Addition, HVAC upgrades and buses, was approved with 58.90 percent or 1,436 of the total votes cast. There were 1,002 votes against the proposition, or 41.10 percent of the votes.

Trustees approved the hiring of Nicole Harris April 25. Harris, a Port Arthur native has worked in the Houston area and held a number of honors including being named Houston Coaches Association Female Coach of the Year.

Published 5:59 pm Friday, April 25, 2025 Leaders in Orange took the first step in banning 8 liner amusement machines in a move to align with a Texas court ruling. The ordinance calls for prohibiting amusement redemption machines and game rooms in the city. A second reading of the ordinance will be done at a future city council meeting.
