Casey Servantez, 45, Mason City, stole the funds between May 2023 and January 2025 while she was employed at the credit union, according to a Mason City Police Department criminal complaint.

    Police have identified the suspect in a shooting last month in the Prairie Playground parking lot in Mason City's East Park. Ladainian Pannhoff, 18, Mason City, has been charged with being a prohibited possessor of a firearm, a Class D felony. According to a Mason City Police Department criminal complaint, Pannhoff possessed a handgun and shot an 18-year-old male during an altercation shortly after 9 p.m. April 24 in East Park near East State Street.

    A felony burglary charge against a man accused in a home invasion in Mason City last month has been dismissed through a plea bargain. Edward Jimmy Giles Jr., 33, recently pleaded guilty to a related charge of domestic abuse assault resulting in injury, a serious misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 365 days in jail, with all but seven days suspended. Since Giles already served those seven days following his arrest, he was released, according to Cerro Gordo County District Court records.

    A new business in downtown Clear Lake is sweet in more ways than one. Lillie Mae Chocolates at 423 Main Ave., which had its soft opening Tuesday, May 6, sells candy, popcorn and ice cream in a cute, nostalgic setting. The color scheme is teal with touches of pink. Aimee Deimerly-Snyder, who owns the shop with her husband, Tom Snyder, said they matched the decor to the Lillie Mae Chocolates location in Marshalltown, where the business was founded in 1939. The couple took over the Lillie Mae in 2003.
