LE MARS, Iowa -- The City of Le Mars has received a $400,000 brownfield grant to conduct environmental site assessments at the site of a former Walmart, packing plant, hotel and landscaping company, the Environmental Protection Agency announced Wednesday. Le Mars was among four Iowa cities, and one intergovernmental association, to receive the EPA grants in the batch announced Wednesday.

BLENCOE, Iowa -- Search efforts are "still underway" Tuesday for a boater who went missing after his boat collided with a barge in the Missouri River. The Saturday crash near the Huff Warner access area at Blencoe was attributed to "mechanical issues," Monona County Sheriff Kevin Ewing said in a press release Tuesday. Eyewitnesses reported the boater, an unidentified "Monona County resident," jumped from the boat just before the crash. The press release did not identify the operator of the barge.

150 years ago: 1875 Bonus Egg: Judge Allison has a hen that lays two eggs at a pop. She produced a very large egg the other day, and upon breaking it, another egg, perfect as any ever seen, was found inside of it. Both eggs contained yolks. Hero of the school: Charley Atwood was awarded the prize card at the Douglas Street School yesterday for writing the best letter, and now he is the hero of that institution.

SIOUX CITY -- Sioux City's Planned Parenthood clinic is one of eight clinics that will be closed "in the coming year," its parent organization, Planned Parenthood North Central States announced Friday. The other clinics are in Ames, Iowa; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Urbandale, Iowa; Alexandria, Minn.; Apple Valley, Minn.; Bemidji, Minn.; and Richfield, Minn.

SIOUX CITY -- A Sioux City man was taken into custody Thursday evening following what authorities described as a "brief standoff" on 21st Street. Sioux City detectives encountered Juan Manuel Segovia, 34, of Sioux City, at around 3:15 p.m. on the city's near-north side. Segovia was sought on outstanding felony warrants for his arrest, according to a Sioux City Police Department press release.
