SIOUX CITY -- Col. Adam M. "Ace" Carlson was formally handed command of the 185th Air Refueling Wing in a ceremony Sunday afternoon. Carlson, 43, takes over for the outgoing commander, Col. Sonya L. Morrison, who is departing for a new position as the Air National Guard Readiness Center Inspector General at Andrews Air Force Base. The new commander has a long history with the base.

150 years ago: 1875 Base Ball on Fourth Street: There will be a practice game of base ball on the old grounds, on Lower Fourth Street, this evening. Found in the Street: A stranger was found lying dead drunk on the sidewalk, near the corner of Fourth and Pearl streets, last Sunday night. He was almost devoid of clothing. He had on a coat but no shirt. Milliner Saw Her Hat Again: During the holidays last winter, Miss Sawyers, the milliner, had a hat stolen from her store.

SIOUX CITY -- Hy-Vee is closing its Pierce Street pharmacy next month. The drugstore is merging its operations with Hy-Vee's nearby Hamilton Boulevard supermarket, 2827 Hamilton Blvd., according to signage posted in the window. Its last day is July 15. "We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you at our Hamilton location starting in mid-July," the sign said.

SIOUX CITY -- The outlook for the union contract covering nurses at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center is up in the air in the wake of UnityPoint St. Luke's announcement that it will acquire MercyOne, a union official said Monday. Sioux City's two healthcare systems jointly announced last week they have signed a letter of intent for UnityPoint to purchase the MercyOne hospital and other facilities, including physician practices and home care services in Siouxland.

SIOUX CITY -- The Sioux City Council on Monday will consider awarding a $203,496 contract to a Missouri contractor for repairs to the slide at the city's Riverside Pool. The contractor, Safe Slide Restoration, of Farmington, Missouri, was the sole bidder on the project, according to council agenda documents. The project should be completed by Oct. 1, according to the agreement between the city and company.
