SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Woodbury County Treasurer is warning consumers about another text message scam that’s been affecting people across the area. County treasurer Tina Bertand said her office has fielded dozens of phone calls from people worried about text messages that say they have a traffic violation that must be resolved by June 6, or their vehicle registration will be canceled. Below is an example of one of these scam texts.

DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) - Iowa cities and counties are no longer allowed to prohibit people from lighting off fireworks on three specific days during the year. Monday, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed Senate File 303 into law. It makes it so local leaders can’t ban fireworks on July 3rd, July 4th and December 31st.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - The Diocese of Sioux City has ordained its eighth bishop in its 123-year history. Bishop John Keehner was ordained during a service steeped in tradition inside the Cathedral of the Epiphany, Thursday afternoon. The ordination mass is a service that’s centuries-old. It starts with the procession, which included 80 priests, 50 deacons and 13 bishops. Among the bishops were Bishop R. Walker Nickless, and Bishop David Bonnar of the Youngstown, Ohio diocese.

BLOOMFIELD, Neb. (KTIV) - The judge in the case of a Bloomfield, Nebraska, man, charged with murder, says the case is on course for trial in July. Alias Reed is charged with the February 2024 shooting deaths of 77-year-old Curtis Strom and 49-year-old William Reffett at Strom’s bowling alley in Bloomfield. His charges include two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of using a firearm to commit a felony.
