    ST. PAUL, Minn.-State lawmakers are in crunch time as the deadline is approaching to pass the budget. The state is dealing with a future $6 billion budget deficit so funding cuts are needed. One bill up for debate would increase taxes on social media companies like Meta, according to State Senator (DFL-Rochester) Liz Boldon. State Representative (R-Rochester) Duane Quam however says the increase in taxes may drive businesses out of the state.

    ST. CHARLES, Minn.-Planting season is well underway and farmers have been out in the fields with the nice weather. At the beginning of the week, 44 percent of corn had been planted across Minnesota putting the state two days ahead of planting season last year. Local farmer Ben Storm says the planting for him is well underway. After last weeks rainy weather and with the help of the past few warm days, he said the ground is dry enough for farmers in the area to plant corn and soybeans.

    ROCHESTER, Minn.-Mayo Clinic patients and employees need to prepare for alternate parking this summer as demolition has been scheduled for the Damon Parking ramp. As part of it's Bold Forward Unbound project, Mayo Clinic will be closing down and demolishing the Damon Parking ramp to make way for the Bernard and Edith Waterman building, a clinical building that will connect to the Gonda building.

    ROCHESTER, Minn.-Southeast Minnesota has been in an elevated fire risk on Thursday due to dry conditions and winds, according to the National Weather Service. The Rochester Fire Department says the best way to stop fires is to prevent them from happening in the first place. The department says people need to start this process by making sure their properties are cleaned up, keeping brush and trash away from their home.

    ROCHESTER, Minn.-As summer gets closer, the 100 deadliest days on Minnesota roads approaches. In 2024, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (MN DPS) said there were 479 traffic deaths on Minnesota roadways. That number is more than the 402 deaths in 2023. The department looks at impaired driving, speeding, seatbelt use and distracted driving when it comes to crashes. So far in 2025, there have been 97 traffic deaths in Minnesota compared to the 125 that took place by this time in 2024.
