ALBERT LEA, Minn. - Albert Lea Fire Rescue says a campfire in a plastic tote was to blame for a house fire on Clark Street Wednesday morning. Firefighters responded to the home at 7 a.m. Workers from Jim & Dude's Plumbing Heating and Air Conditions called 911 to report smoke coming from the building. One person was in the home at the time of the fire and was exiting as fire crews arrived. The person started a campfire in a tote on the main level to stay warm.

WASECA, Minn. - A partial building collapse has closed S. State St. (Hwy. 13) in downtown Waseca, according to the Waseca Police Department. The 100 block of S. State St. will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic until further notice. There are no reported injuries and surrounding buildings have been evacuated.  Residents who are displaced can go to the Waseca Public Safety Center to meet with Emergency Management for help.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Department of Health sent out layoff notices to 170 employees Wednesday afternoon. Those positions were funded by federal grants which were recently ended by the federal government. More than 300 'at risk' notices are being sent to 300 MDH workers. Twenty workers who were slated to begin positions at MDH had offers rescinded.  MDH said the layoffs are the direct result of the federal government's decision to cut more than $220 million in funding.

MANKATO, Minn. - The Blue Earth County Sheriff's office says a man was killed Monday afternoon after he was run over by his tractor. The incident happened in a rural area northeast of Mankato. Deputies say 82-year-old Gerald Fredricks may have accidentally started the tractor while it was in gear while standing near a rear tire. The tractor came to a stop when it ran into a UTV parked in front of it. First responders attempted life-saving efforts at the scene, but were unsuccessful.

PRESTON, Minn. - A judge handed down a sentence Monday afternoon to Sarah Petersen, who took the fall for her sister Samantha for a deadly crash with an Amish buggy that killed two children. Petersen pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal vehicular operation. Sarah Petersen was sentenced to 90 days in Fillmore County Jail. She is likely to only serve 60 days for good behavior. She will also serve 120 days on house arrest and four and a half years of probation.
