EXETER — Exeter area schools went into lockdown Tuesday due to a nearby police investigation in which a heavy law enforcement presence was seen on Epping Road. The reason for the police response was not immediately known. Officials at SAU 16 and Phillips Exeter Academy announced Tuesday afternoon they were in lockdown while police were investigating. Exeter police have not responded to inquiries about the investigation, but New Hampshire State Police confirmed they are responding to assist.
