The City of Hanceville is discussing the possibility of disposing the police department's assets. This comes as ABC 33/40 has reported the challenges the city faces on securing insurance coverage for its police department in recent weeks. It's unclear what would happen with the Cullman County Sheriff's Office agreement if the city did get rid of its department assets. In March, Sheriff Matt Gentry offered for his deputies to to patrol the area while the city actively searched for a chief.

A new memorial now stands to honor the veterans and service members of the community, marking the culmination of months of hard work by one dedicated local resident. Wayne Campbell, Vice President of the Oak Grove Memorial Park Board, expressed the importance of the memorial. "Veterans are a large part of our community," he said.

CALERA, Ala. — The search for Rueben Waithaka, a missing man from Calera, continues as the community grows increasingly anxious. Waithaka has not been seen since May 15, when he was last spotted in the Timberline neighborhood off Highway 25. Tomorrow marks one week since his family last saw him. Police have expressed concerns that Waithaka may be confused. Signs urging residents to keep an eye out for him are posted throughout the area, from Highway 25, to Timberline, to downtown Calera.

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. — Following severe weather, Vestavia Hills High School Freshman Campus will operate on a two-hour delay on Monday, May 19, due to a power outage. The revised exam schedule will be as follows: 5th Period Exam from 10:10 a.m. to 12:10 p.m., and 6th Period Exam from 12:35 p.m. to 2:35 p.m. There will be no afternoon study sessions on Monday. Officials said they will reassess the situation in the morning and notify of any changes to the delayed schedule by 6:30 a.m. Monday.
