A police officer shows a roadside drug test (Image: Newsquest) Two drivers and a knifeman were among defendants sentenced recently at York Magistrates Court. Peter Bradman, 34, of Western Terrace, Haxby, pleaded guilty to cocaine driving and was banned for five years. He was given a 12-month community order with 15 days’ rehabilitative activities and 150 hours’ unpaid work and ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £114 statutory surcharge.

Flowers at a garden centre (Image: Newsquest) Two people had to dial 999 to get home from a North Yorkshire garden centre yesterday evening. Staff at the horticultural business, which has not been named, closed and locked its doors at the end of the day’s trading. At 5.51pm, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue received a call from two people who said they were in the garden’s centre outdoor section and couldn’t get out. They hadn’t realised it was closing time, they said.

Angela Lacy, prosecuting, said North Yorkshire trading standards officers twice found illegal versions of the nicotine vapes at Rohit Verma’s store, despite sending him a warning letter describing what was legal and what was not. They included vapes that were up to 20ml in size though the legal limit was 2ml and vapes without a mandatory health warning or indication of how much nicotine was in them or an instruction leaflet on how to use them.
