BOISE, Idaho - The State of Idaho won't execute any condemned inmates until at least July 2026, as the state reinstates the firing squad as an option for execution. Idaho lawmakers passed House Bill 37, which designates firing squad as the primary form of execution instead of lethal injection. The law goes into effect July 1, 2026. The Department of Corrections is working now to retrofit an area of the Idaho Maximum Security Institution to accommodate this change.

CHENEY, Wash - Cheney High School and Three Springs High School are being evacuated Wednesday afternoon and police are responding to the scene. A message sent to Cheney parents around 2 p.m. Wednesday said the schools were being evacuated and that more information will be made available soon. According to Cheney Police, officers are investigating a reported threat but do not believe anyone is in danger. A perimeter has been set up at the school and kids are being picked up.

OROVILLE, Wash - The State of Washington says property owners in Oroville did not heed warnings in the summer of 2023 and caused a wildfire that burned more than 34,000 acres in Washington and British Columbia. The Eagle Bluff Fire started on July 29, 2023. By the time it was out, it had charred 16,483 acres in Washington and just over 17,000 acres in Canada. According to a lawsuit filed this month in federal court, the fire started on property belonging to Mark Whigham and Renee Shepley-Ragan.

The world's largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament relies on hundreds of volunteers, including court monitors. You can pick which type of court you want to help with, from youth to high school to adult men's and women's courts. No basketball experience is required. Full-time court monitors will get a t-shirt, hat and shorts.

SPOKANE, Wash. - If you have plans in downtown Spokane Saturday, you'll want to work around road closures for the Armed Forces Torchlight Parade. The City of Spokane will start closing down streets at 8 a.m.The parade, a tradition that dates back to the late 1930s, will hit the streets at 7:30 p.m. People will stake out their viewing spots many hours earlier. Here's a schedule of street closures:8 am: Spokane Falls Blvd between Stevens and Post. Wall and Howard between Spokane Falls Blvd and Main.
