YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A former Austintown Township trustee and Poland Township Police officer submitted a motion for judicial release on Tuesday to try to get an early release from prison. Steve Kent is serving time in the Toledo Correctional Institution on a tampering with evidence conviction. He filed a second appeal in Judge Durkin’s court after he was convicted of a felony tampering with evidence charge in August of 2023.

WELLSVILLE, Ohio (WKBN)- The Wellsville High School Athletic Department announced that one of their most successful coaches is taking on a different role in the boys’ basketball program. David “Bug” Thompson will return to the sidelines as an assistant coach of the Tigers’ boys’ basketball team alongside head coach Nate Scott. Thompson was the head coach of the Wellsville girls’ basketball program for the past two seasons. He led the girls to their first sectional title since 2000.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WKBN)- Penn State University cleared up information regarding some of its local branch campuses closing. According to a press release, the University stated that closures are not official until The Board of Trustees holds a public vote. The board will meet in executive session on May 15 to continue their discussions about this process. After the session, more information will be shared regarding the timing of the public meeting.

Most of the outages were in Lisbon and Leetonia, where over 900 customers lost power. Over 700 customers lost power in Center Township.
